Due to discovering the persistent culture of toxic masculinity and sexual predation created by the male members of this department’s faculty, I wish to rescind my application for this position. Thank you for your consideration, and please make every effort in the future to confront your male colleagues about their reprehensible behavior. Even if an action technically might not be a breach of the faculty code of conduct, it certainly does not mean that that action is consistent with the highest standards of professionalism and regard for the welfare of your students. I’m extremely disappointed in all of the things that I’ve learned about what has become standard operating procedure here, and it’s time for all of you to step up and do better. But it’s not my job. It’s yours. Be better allies.
